Hi everyone!

I have just brought a new laptop, I dont know if you heard but mine got 'lost' so ill be finishing off my character designs and start on layout research, which will include photography of locations, houses shops etc to get an idea of what older buildings look like.

Character design - Louis Blair

Ok, here is my design for the main character. I think i have a good, average guy kinda look but the illustration style still does not quite match the one we were after (need more practice). Hopefully you guys have some decent designs. When we all get back together we can look at each others designs and pick one we think is best or make a character that is based on a combination of a few of our ideas or something.

I have a few more animatics left to do, but they should hopefully be done by next Wednesday. The ending still needs a punchline, so I'm going to leave a blank space in the animatic to accommodate it.

While that's going on, here are a few suggestions for next week:
*Start thinking about which animatics will be made into the final product (three segments minimum, not including beginning and ending, must be no more than 1:30 of footage total).
*Search for a suitable voice actor and suitable music. I don't want my voice in the final product because I hate it.
*Print out all relevant research, storyboards, designs and related paperwork to put in our big folder (which I'll be bringing in next week).

Hopefully we can begin animating the final product within a week.

Storyboards - Louis Blair - Ending scene

Introduction and Art Gallery animatics

With these last two my slate is clean, until I recieve more storyboards. I feel what we have is about enough, but we still need an ending.

Sport and Homeless animatics

Here are two of my own storyboards in animatic form. The cross-dissolve option glitched a little.

Bus trip animatic

Again with AE and no music. All sound effects are from the internet, so we should probably try recording our own for the final piece.

Eating animatic

Made using AE. Needs music.

Placeholder voices

Hi, it's Felix. Unfortunately I couldn't get any animatics done due to me not having Photoshop, but I did record some placeholder voices. I can get the animatics done hopefully by tomorrow (I'll set a personal deadline for Wednesday), and today I'll try making my own storyboards.

I did multiple takes of each segment, but for posting here I'm choosing the ones I think are the best.

Storyborads - Louis Blair

Alright guys, these are the storyborads I have done so far and a few more will be on there way. On them are the dialogue intended to be used and an approximation of the timing for the animatic stages.
I still need to work on the intro and the ending but so far i think we have the bulk of the scenes sorted.
Tomorrow i feel it is importnat that we look at everybodys storyboards and see if we can identify anything that needs a little tweaking.

What is imporatant at this stage now is to turn what we've got into an animatic. Over the next few days we will be able to decide if we need some more scenes and look at any problems that we have or may encounter.

This is just a  test

storyboards

Here's the story boards. With the dialogue I have titled each paragraph with the pages it regards. Each new line represents each frame on the page except for when stated otherwise.

Rough Character Designs

These are some rough character designs I'd come up with to see what kind of style Louis is looking for,  I played with the colour scheme briefly also.  There are more designs to upload but If you can post some designs, that would be great!

Louis mensioned that he would like the main character to be a average looking younger man, so the design has changed.

There is also a little thumbnail sketch of what could be happening in the rugby scene we discussed at the last meeting, I was just experimenting with the composition and thought this looked the most interesting.

As he is showing the audience the pitch, a rugby player comes steaming towards him and the main character will be unaware of this until he gets tackled.

Ideas & Storyboarding

Ok guys, Apologies for the timming but so far I believe I have picked 3 ideas from Johnny, 3 from Alannah, 3 from Manjit and 2 from Felix. Contact me if you need clarification but i think i have outlined on the blog and on Facebook all ideas i have picked from each of you. Again I apologise that I have left it late for you but i would be happy if I receive the storyboards via the blog/facebook by Friday afternoon/evening or possibly saturday.

Still need a script

I have recieved Alannah's sketches, but I can't work with them until I have a script. Please post the script ASAP.

Ideas

Goes to the seaside (in a mini), expecting a nice sandy beach but finds builders working and lots of seagulls but manages to enjoy fish and chips before being pecked, robbed and pooed on by the seagulls. Goes back to his car to find it covered in droppings and feathers.

Goes to the seaside in his mini, finds a nice spot on beach (sun is shining and seagulls in the background) as soon as he has finished applying sun lotion it rains...he runs back to the car where its covered in poo and feathers!

2.       Visits London, travelling on the red bus.  The character goes upstairs and finds himself sitting in a cloud of smoke from young people getting high on weed.  He tries to go down suddenly the bus stops and he tumbles down the stairs possibly rolling onto the street.

3.       Goes to play polo but falls off/gets knocked off his horse and gets trampled on

4.       Boxing day hunts...character is walking through the woods while the narrator is telling him about the hunts...they hear a rumble getting closer...closer...BAM! The character gets bombarded by the hounds! Awwww.

5.       Drinking a cup of tea whilst watching a cricket match and gets hit by the ball. Or a flying bat.

Illustrative style

I was researching styles of illustration that were produced around the 1950's as it is relevant to the idea put to us in the brief.  I have noticed the simplicity in form and also the boldness of the outlines, this may be suited to the style we hope to achieve for the animation.  There is also a lack of depth and features in the designs, completely 2d.

This link has many helpful examples of this style :

Research

Having been given the brief, I decided to research for character designs for the 40-50's era.  To find out what people wore and how they look I based my research around the british comedy tv shows, for example Carry On..., Only Fools and Horses, Black Adder, etc.

To fidn inspiration for the style I looked at Lp Covers, Illustrations and different types of animation.  Below are the results found so far.

Alannah:  Some work i have done before
when looking at the brief that was giving i research old films from 1930-1960s film posters and also looked at different varieties in the 21st century:
